Stylophone
Overview
Sheet music in our Stylophone series includes melodies, lyrics, and chord symbols with Stylophone tablature. The music is arranged for the original Stylophone.
What Is Included
Music in our Stylophone series includes:
- Melody in notation and Stylophone tablature
- Lyrics if the original music includes words
- Chord symbols above the music
Required Skills
- Ability to read Stylophone tablature. You will also benefit from being able to read notation to help with the rhythms.
Instrument
The music is arranged for the original Stylophone. While some music may work on other Stylophone models, it is specifically arranged to fit the range of the original Stylophone. Additionally, other Stylophones either don't include numeric labeling of the keys or the numbers are different. The Gen X-2 doesn't include numbers and the keyboard has a different range. Some music may work on it if you read notation, but there will be melodies that exceed its range. The Stylophone Beat doesn't have a keyboard, although it does have numeric labeling. The numbers aren't the same as the original Stylophone, which means the tablature won't work for it.
Chords
Chord symbols are included above the music.
Music Notation and Tablature
Music notation is included for all titles in this series. It is written at the sounding pitch if you set the Stylophone's octave switch to 2. If you use 1 or 3 instead, the tablature will still work, but you will be playing an octave higher (setting 3) or lower (setting 1).
Stylophone tablature is included below the music. The tablature is numeric values from 1 to 12. The numbers correspond to the labeling of the keyboard on the Stylophone. Play notes by using the stylus to touch the key indicated by the number in the tablature.
The Stylophone keyboard is laid out the same as the black and white keys on a piano. The numbers include ".5" values like 1.5 or 3.5. The ".5" numbers are used for the "black" keys while whole numbers represent the "white" keys. Due to this layout, you can also play the music using only the notation if you already read music.
Keys
We try to use easier keys like C major, F major, G major, A minor, D minor, and E minor if possible. Original keys are prioritized if they fit the range of the Stylophone. However, we may occasionaly use a more difficult key if it's the only way the melody will fit.
Lyrics
We generally include one verse of lyrics within the music. Other lyrics are included as text at the end of the music. Some lyrics may be omitted, but this is usually done only when there are too many verses to easily include (e.g., songs that include dozens of verses).
Lyrics may vary from the version you know. A small number of songs include many variations in lyrics, none of which are standardized. It isn't always possible to create a version of these lyrics that is familiar to everyone.
Tempo
Tempos are editorial suggestions in most cases. Feel free to choose your own tempo.
